Fourth Grade

Reading

Students will be able to read for meaning, answer questions in multiple choice format, as well as write short and extended responses for the following type questions:

  • Author’s Purpose
  • Author’s Viewpoint
  • Main Idea and Details
  • Compare and Contrast
  • Similarities and Differences
  • Reference and Research
  • Distinguishing Between Fact and Opinion
  • Making Inferences

Language Arts

Students will demonstrate proficiency in writing a four-paragraph essay for both informative and opinion styles of writing, which reflect focus, organization, support, and conventions of punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and spelling.

Math

Students must have mastered basic FACT families through the 12's (multiplication /division) prior to entering fourth grade. Math topics include:

  • Place Value and Rounding
  • Measurement (Standard and Metric)
  • Multiplication of whole numbers and decimals
  • Division of whole numbers and decimals
  • Decimals, Fractions, and Percentage Equivalents
  • Geometry

Science

Students will review / revisit topics in more depth including:

  • Electricity and Magnetism
  • Force and Motion
  • Earth Science
  • Human Body
  • Sound and Light
  • Space
  • Matter

Social Studies

Students will learn about Florida history beginning with the Native Floridians, Florida becoming a state, various wars, reconstruction, building of railroads/transportation through modern day Florida.

Homework Expectations

  • 20-30 minutes of daily reading and AR tests
  • i-Ready Reading and Math lessons
  • Other, at teacher's discretion
